As students may have access to confidential information about persons or institutions or their representatives for the purposes of doing studies and writing papers, it is necessary to have some limitation on the distribution of material. This material should be restricted to the teacher and those preparing the paper.

In order to maintain confidentiality, persons are not to be identified in any required written work of a course or on any permanent verbal record unless written permission of the person(s) involved is first obtained. Please refer to the Student Confidentiality Agreement and the SHA Confidentiality Agreement.

It is College of Nursing policy that all students maintain current CPR certification and AED throughout the program. It is the student's responsibility to provide proof of certification/recertification upon admission to the program and while in the program.

The certification must include theory AND hands on skills training for choking, CPR, and AED for infant, child, and adult (such as CPR-C with AED, CPR-B with AED, Heartsaver, BLS)

Students failing to provide evidence of current CPR certification and AED will be excluded from clinical practice.

As a College of Nursing student, you will be providing direct care to vulnerable patients/clients of all ages across a wide variety of hospital and community agencies. Students are required to provide the results (dated not more than six months prior to submission) of a criminal record check, including vulnerable sector search. Students failing to provide the results of a criminal records check will not be allowed to participate in any clinical experience requiring client care. In the event of an extended search (i.e. student flagged for fingerprinting), students who are unable to provide the results of a criminal record check prior to commencement of the program will not be permitted to enroll in any course requiring client care. Students are required to report to the Associate Dean responsible for their site any criminal convictions and/or outstanding charges that occur after the date of the original criminal records check. Failure to report criminal convictions and/or outstanding charges that have occurred will be grounds for immediate dismissal from the program.

Throughout the nursing program, additional criminal record checks may be required by specific clinical agencies. Any costs associated with the criminal record check will be the responsibility of the student.

All nursing students will be fitted with two SHA approved N95 respiratory masks and educated on their use when required during the program. The use of an N95 respiratory mask is to protect students from infection when providing care or service to clients with acute respiratory infections and to comply with health region policies. Students who do not comply with this requirement may be at risk of not being able to complete required components of the program.  If you decline to be FIT tested for personal, medical and/or religious reasons, a respirator waiver form must be filled out and submitted.

The College of Nursing uses the Health Sciences Placement Network (HSPnet) to manage all clinical placements. Please read the information handout and instructions provided to access HSPnet and sign the consent form. Learn more.

All nursing students are required to complete the recommended immunizations for health care workers as outlined in the Saskatchewan Immunization Manual, Chapter 7 Page 26 prior to any contact between students and patients/clients.

• Students must fill out the Immunization Consent Form with proof of immunizations. Saskatoon/PDBSN students use the Student Wellness Centre Immunization Consent form. Prince Albert site use PA Immunization Consent form. Distributed sites use Distributed Immunization Consent form.
• Students are required to submit to the College of Nursing proof of immunizations prior to participation in clinical experience.
• Failure to maintain recommended immunizations may delay a student's progress in his/her studies.
• Specific immunizations will be required for certain clinical placements and in specific circumstances, such as disease outbreaks (example: Influenza and Covid-19). Students who refuse or are unable to comply with this requirement will not be able to complete required components of that course.
• Students who are applying for international clinical experiences will be required to meet the immunization requirements for the destination country.
• Any applicable costs of immunization are the responsibility of the student.

A College of Nursing standard uniform is required for all undergraduate nursing students while in clinical and assessment and skills labs. A College of Nursing uniform jacket must be worn when researching patients on the unit, unless you are wearing a College of Nursing uniform.

Note: It may take up to six weeks for the crest to be added to your uniforms and jacket, so please order as soon as possible to avoid delays.

The Transferring Lifting Repositioning (TLR) Course is designed to assist students with identifying and managing/eliminating risks associated with client handling and moving general objects. The course includes a thorough assessment process of self, environment/equipment and client/object (must include theory AND hands on skill training).

The course is developed to assist students with meeting the minimum requirements of Saskatchewan's occupational health and safety legislation related to safe patient handling and musculoskeletal injuries. Students failing to provide evidence of current TLR Course certification will be excluded from clinical practice. Certification is required every three years or more frequently as outlined by the health region or clinical agency.

Transferring, Lifting, Repositioning (TLR) courses are currently offered by Saskatchewan Polytechnic. Please visit SaskPolytech to register.

Alternatively, TLR courses are also available through SIMS: Saskatoon Institute for Medical Simulation.

Saskatoon students will complete this waiver at orientation.

All nursing students need to complete a Work-Integrated Learning Consents and Waiver of Liability form for each Saskatchewan-based placement during the course of the program. This is required to ensure eligibility for workers' compensation benefits in the event an injury is sustained during a placement. If an injury is sustained during a placement, procedures and related consent and claim forms are available from the instructor.

Please complete the WCB W1 form as soon as possible following an injury during your clinical placement and submit to your instructor within 48 hours. Your instructor will then send it to your Clinical Coordinator, who completes the E1 form and submits to the WCB. You only need to complete these forms if you are injured during your clinical placement (needle stick, slip and fall, etc.)

Students participating in a lab OR clinical placement must demonstrate a working knowledge of controlled products/hazardous materials, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) symbols and the general safety precautions indicated by the WHMIS label or symbol prior to clinical placement. You are required to complete the necessary two hour online training through Workplace Safety and Environmental Protection, University of Saskatchewan. No other WHMIS certificate will be accepted. Your WHMIS course must have been within one year of when you submit it, and WHMIS must be renewed at least every 3 years from date of issue.

Upon completion, a certificate will be e-mailed to you. Please submit the certificate with your other required documents.
